Description
This auction is for a very rare Grey Iron Greycraft model homes takapart building set in the original box, with original instructions -- No. 520 Barn. I've only seen three of these boxed sets in about 10 years, and I owned two of them. This is the most complete one I've ever seen. Starting with the box -- box top has "Donald's" written in crayon(?) on the top, faded. It is dirty, with a few water marks on the edges. All four corners are split, but they aren't floppy -- it still holds its shape. Top says, "Greycraft Model Homes Takapart Building Set Grey Iron Casting Comjpany, Mount Joy, PA USA copyright 1939." The box bottom is intact, no split corners or tears. Most importantly, it is the only one I've ever seen that still has the original labelled, multipart insert. The box is divided into 20 sections of different sizes, separated with heavy cardobard. Each of the sections is labelled, "Ramps", "Keys" (connectors), "Ridge poles--keys", Roofing, "siding", "Window Assemblies", "Guides for sliding doors", "corner posts", "corner stones", "door assemblies", etc. The little windows still have their acetate "panes" in them. There are also a bunch of longer boards, made of the same wood, too big for any of the sections, I think maybe they went under the dividers? The original instructions are included. It is one large multifolded piece of paper, like a road map. It folds out to be 22" x 17". Some of the pages have some toning, others are pure white. It is not tattered or torn, it is in very good shape. It includes detailed instructions on how to build the model. It also has life size exploded views of the barn -- you can place the pieces on their corresponding drawing on the instructions to match them up. One page shows the 5 buildings in the series, all assembled. This set is supposed to contain 158 pieces (second largest in the series). I have not counted, but the box looks very full. The detail of the model is incredible. To build one of the double hung windows takes about 5 pieces. Everying is push together, no glue, no nails. All of the wooden parts (it is 100% wood except for a door pin and the acetate in the windows) are slotted to push together. Here is the description from the instructions, "No. 520 Barn. 158 pieces. Barns of all types as well as Dutch colonial HOuse can be made with this set. Will make a Barn 11.25 inces long, 8.50 inches wide, and 9.50 inches hight. It is supplied with two double and two single doors. Doorways have includes leding into them. Packd with simple instructions in a partitioned red, white, and blude display box." A great model for a railroad setup, train garden, christmas village, collector of architectural models or architectural building toys. Just an all around incredible model building set. I combine shipping, so please see my other auctions this week for two vintage tin litho Bilt-E-Z art deco building sets, an architectural home building set, Kenner Building set, Pyro build a plane sets, and more. Payment:   International buyers you must pay with PayPal. For U.S. buyers I accept money orders, personal checks, and Pay Pal. PayPal items ship the day after payment is made. Please note that if you are mailing payment I can usually only get to my Post Office Box on Saturday, so factor that in for the turnaround time. Payment is due within seven days from the end of the auction. If your payment is not received within this time period your order will be canceled and the item relisted.  Shipping: I only charge actual postage - no added fees. I combine multiple items won by the same person the same week and charge actual postage. I only ship Priority Mail for International. I ship Priority Mail and First class for domestic (weight tops out at 13 oz for domestic first class). Insurance is automatically added to all invoices (sorry, too many lost packages, too many expensive refunds).  All pieces are individually wrapped. Whenever there is an original box or other original paper item I put that into a plastic bag in case you get delivery on a rainy day. I will use media mail in the U.S. for books. I leave feedback, so please do the same. If there is any problem with the item, contact me first, before leaving feedback, and we’ll work it out.
