Description
This is a superb example of a Mignot French Foreign Legion Band, c. 1914. The bandsmen wear an olive green uniform consisting of a jacket with gold buttons and trousers, black belt and shoes. His headgear is a white kepi with a black visor. The band director wears a similar uniform and carries a director’s baton. The bandsmen have the following instruments: bugle with a banner, French horn, bassoon, serpentine, flute, alto saxophone, baritone, bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, and “Jingling Johnnie.” There are a total of twelve (12) figures in the set. For most of the 19th Century the firm of Lucotte in Paris was operated by Coopery, Blonde and Gerbera (C.B.G.). In 1897 Henri Gustavo Charles Mignot joined the firm and began to introduce many new ranges of toy soldiers. By 1901 he was a partner and in 1912 he became the sole operator. The firm concentrated on various periods of French history, but later diversifying into armies of the world. They produced almost all of the French and French-Colonial regiments, together with representative figures from many of the world’s other armies, especially those in conflict with France. Among their most popular figures were those of the Napoleonic era. Mignot was Britain’s’ and Hyde’s main competitor. The stunning set comes in the original red Les Soldats de Plumb CBG Paris box with original straw packing material. This will make a great gift for those trying to “recapture” a more genteel era, “the Second Golden Age” of toy soldiers, American military and World War I military history buffs, army bands and military music enthusiasts, early First World War fighting units, unique uniforms, those interested in Mignot figures, or the discerning collector of fine figures or militaria.
